Cattle for sale
By 2020 all cattle in the Killochries Fold herd were DNA tested using Neogen’s Igenity Beef profile. This gave Maternal and Production potential for every animal in the herd.
The profile gives the genetic potential of the animal across sixteen different traits. Birth weight, two traits for ease of calving, the heifer’s potential to conceive, during the breeding season, relative to other heifers, ability to produce milk, the potential to have a long life, docility, weaning weight, average daily weight gain, yearling weight, feed efficiency, marbling, rib-eye area, fat, tenderness of the meat and the hot carcase weight. The Igenity Maternal and Production indexes are composites of the above traits
The only bull calves that were kept entire, were the calves with the highest DNA score for Maternal and Production traits. From 2020 we have two bulls left, one red and one black. From 2021 we have three bulls born April and from 2022, we have five bull calves left, two whites, two blacks and three reds.
The young bulls would be suitable for new folds or small folds where the number of cows did not exceed eight.
Interest parties are very welcome to visit.
